Biography	As a father of four Eagle scouts (one more to go) I know first-hand the value of Scouting and the positive impact it has on a young man’s life. From advancing in rank, to completing merit badges, to enjoying outdoor adventures, Scouting provides unique opportunities for learning lifetime skills while having a great time with quality friends. For the LDS merit badge clinic, I’m the counselor for Communications – an Eagle required badge. In my 37-year professional career, working in the military (retired USAF Lt Col) and private business sectors, my primary expertise has been leading large technical teams responding with written and oral proposals for high-value government requests for proposal.  In addition, as a business owner today of two retail franchises in the Raleigh area, marketing and advertising is critical to our sales growth. I am responsible for our company’s radio, television, and social media advertising. I understand the principles of good communication and how to apply those principles in a practical way to motivate a target audience to take action. For the Communications merit badge, I plan to have an action-packed 3 hours where the Scouts will be working in teams to develop and present a sales pitch, produce a radio commercial for a product or service they are interested in, and understand the importance of good listening skills. My goal is to help them accomplish 75% of the merit badge requirements and return home with a clear ‘to do” list to quickly finish up the badge.
