Biography

BIOGRAPHY:


Gary B. Roberts, Ph. D:  Professor of Management and Entrepreneurship at Kennesaw State University.  Eagle Scout and former Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 144, Marietta, Georgia.  He is also a Sam Walton Free Enterprise Fellow and advisor to the KSU Enactus Team (formerly Students in Free Enterprise).






2012: Dr. Roberts will be assisted by his graduate research assistant, Mr. Dennis Loubiere, who is a student in the MBA program at Coles College.  Mr. Loubiere has extensive experience as an entrepreneur, mortgage banker, and manager.  Both are registered merit badge counselors with Troop 1776.

Entrepreneurship

This merit badge will be taught under the supervision of Dr. Gary B. Roberts, Sam Walton Fellow and advisor to the Kennesaw State University Enactus Team (formerly Students in Free Enterprise Team [SIFE]).  He is joined by the Team Manager, Dennis Loubiere.  Both are registered merit badge counselors with Troop 1776.   Instructors will be students who are business majors in the Coles College of Business -- Georgia's largest business school.  The students are members of KSU's nationally ranked Enactus Team.  Enactus brings together a diverse network of university students, academic professionals and industry leaders around the shared mission of creating a better, more sustainable world through the positive power of business. By contributing their talents to projects that improve the lives of people worldwide, Enactus participants are demonstrating that individuals with a knowledge and passion for business can be a powerful force for change.

Entrepreneurship Merit Badge
Prework:

 

  1. Read the latest version of the Merit Badge Pamphlet.  You may borrow it from your Scout Library or order it directly from The Atlanta Scout Shop, phone: 770-988-9912 or the B.S. A. Catalog at 1-800-323-0732.
  2. Bring the Merit Badge Pamphlet with you.
  3. Bring $10.00 Cash.  This money will be used as your personal equity go start your business.  We really do hope to capture the idea that it's the scout's ten dollars that he is investing in a business and that the profits (or losses) are his too. 
  4. You will plan, organize and run a business during the Merit Badge University.All requirements for the merit badge may be completed during the Merit Badge University.
  5. This badge is taught by Kennesaw State University business majors who are members of the Enactus Team (formerly the Students in Free Enterprise Team [SIFE]).


Authorized Merit Badge Counselor  Youth Protection not completed within the past two years.
