Venturing Crew 425 is sponsoring this one and a half day Aquatics Merit Badge Camporee which will allow Scouts to earn 2 out of the 3 merit badges of their choice. The merit badges being offered are Canoeing, Kayaking, and Small-boat Sailing.


 


 

Description

Cost of this event is $50 per Scout which includes Saturday lunch, dinner and Sunday breakfast, camping fee and materials. Adults are $10 per person. Friday night is optional, arrive after 6pm. There is an option to purchase Saturday breakfast for an additional $3 per person.


If all slots are not filled by the registration deadline, WALK-INS will be allowed for a fee of $55 per Scout.


Please be advised that in order to participate in this event, each unit is required to file a separate request for a Tour Permit with their local council. Additionally, participating units are required to meet BSA Standards of Youth Protection. The unit leaders attending this event should bring medical forms and emergency contact informatin for each Scout.


REGISTRATION: 


Registration by unit is REQUIRED. It will be assumed that the registration of a Scout in a class will indicate the Scoutmaster’s approval for pursuing the merit badge. Open enrollment will begin on the above stated date. Fees are non-refundable but can be transferred to another scout. Merit Badge Counselors require student e-mail or phone number for coordination. 


 First Come, First Serve:  Scouts are admitted to classes on a first come, first serve basis via the online registration system. There is no waiting list for any of the merit badge classes. Should you encounter a booked class, please monitor the website to see if space becomes available. 


UNIFORM:  Unit t-shirt is the official uniform for the weekend. 


CODE OF CONDUCT:  The Scout Oath, the Law, and the Outdoor Code shall be the code of the Merit Badge Camporee. A Scout whose conduct is not consistent with the code will be directed to leave the grounds immediately. Adequate supervision must be provided by each participating unit with a minimum of 2 adults per unit attending. Discipline is the responsibility of the Scoutmaster or other assigned leaders in charge of the unit. 


TRANSPORTATION:  The unit leaders must coordinate arrival and departure time for transportation. Units need to make certain that they have adequate transportation for their Scouts. Please advise your parents NOT to drop off or pick up Scouts from grounds. ALL transportation TO and FROM the Merit Badge Camporee must be arranged within your unit. Encourage everyone to carpool. Units may not leave Scouts by themselves to be picked up by parents at a later time. 


MEALS:  Saturday lunch and dinner will be provided, along with Sunday morning breakfast.


Saturday morning breakfast is optional for an additional fee of $3 per person. 


CHECK IN:  A unit leader should check in the entire unit (please no individual check ins). The unit leader will turn in the Scout’s blue card signed by their Scoutmaster. (one per each merit badge) The unit leader will be requested to leave his/her cell phone number for emergency contact purposes. 


CLEAN UP:   The Scout is clean. Unit leaders please coordinate with your unit to clean the premises and to keep the grounds in the same condition as found. Future offerings of the Merit Badge Camporee will largely depend on how neat we leave the place. All garbage must be properly disposed into designated containers or carried out.

Merit Badge worksheets will be provided. 


PREREQUISITES:  The Merit Badge Counselor will give credit for completed requirements ONLY. The Scout should complete their swimming test prior to the Merit Badge Camporee. Unit leaders will need to mail proof of the swimming test requirement of each Scout registered to this event with payment. Prerequisites will be listed under “Event Details” under “Prerequisites” or the Merit Badge Counselor link (click on counselor name). 


ADVANCEMENT RECORDS:  After the merit badge camporee, if you have any questions about Scout advancement, please visit your “Unit Sign-Up” page and print the “Show & Print Roster”. We will try to have all requirements completed records posted within one week of the event. A full report for the unit will be e-mailed to each registered adult that attends.

SCOUT PREPARATION:  Scouts are required to READ and BRING the Merit Badge pamphlets that they have registered for.


 


WE WILL ONLY ACCEPT ONLINE REGISTRATIONS. DO NOT SEND MONEY UNLESS YOU ARE ALREADY REGISTERED ONLINE. IF YOUR REGISTERED SCOUT IS NOT ATTENDING, REMOVE HIM FROM THE REGISTRATION, SO OTHER SCOUTS CAN BENEFIT.

Directions to the Event

   The camporee will be held at: 


4437 Chapel Road, Graham, TX Possum Kingdom Lake


 



  1. Take Interstate 30 West from Fort Worth, and continue on it after Interstate 20 merges in from the left, about 15 miles West of Fort Worth.  The road  becomes  Interstate 20 West ;
  2. Follow Interstate 20 West approximately another 13 miles, to EXIT 406 (Old Dennis Road, South Bowie Drive.)  There will be a sign just before Exit 406 for a Department Of Public Safety office, and you will have passed Weatherford High School on your left.  TURN RIGHT  (NORTH) ONTO OLD DENNIS ROAD at the top of the exit ramp;
  3. Take Old Dennis Road north about 2.5 miles, through some residential neighborhoods, and through a 4-way stop sign.  The speed limit slows to 30 MPH.  Adhere to speed limits. 
  4. At the first traffic light, a five-way intersection, with a Valero “Git & Go” station on the right, TURN LEFT and take Highway 180 West.  Highway 180 west is at the top left of the five road “star” of the intersection. You will be coming in at the lower right side of the star.
  5. Follow Highway 180 west approximately 11 miles through Mineral Wells.  On the west side of Mineral Wells, just past the Palo Pinto General Hospital (on your left,) is a blinking yellow light.  This is State Road 337.  TURN RIGHT and take State Road 337 north.
  6. Follow State Road 337 north for approximately 32 miles, past the 4-way flashing red light (at about 12 miles.)  Highway 337 changes names to Highway 16 after about 15 more miles.  Stay on Highway 16 until you reach the outskirts of Graham, TX.
  7. Just as you reach Graham, look for County Road 1287 on the left.  (There is a Shell station ahead on the right just beyond where the turn is.)  TURN LEFT (SOUTH) ONTO C.R. 1287, and follow it for about 12.5 miles.  You will pass a PK Smokehouse on the left.  Look for Mike’s Rentals on the left, just past which you will turn left, onto County Road 1148.
  8.  TURN LEFT (EAST) ONTO COUNTY ROAD 1148.  Follow C.R. 1148 east about 1.2 miles down toward the lake, and there will be Chapel Road on the right, where you will turn right.  Just before the turn, on the right, you will see Westside Chapel Church. 
  9. TURN RIGHT onto Chapel Road and follow it for about 1.5 miles around the lake shore.  The house is 4437 Chapel Road, on the left.  There are street numbers on the mailbox.
