If you are having trouble registering scouts, carefully read the information on the help tab.
If you send an email that does not include the information we need to help you, it wastes time and will get promptly deleted.
Test drive the new site (in progress) at New Meritbadge.Info.Leave comments at our Facebook page.

Notice!!! Meritbadge.Info will switch to the new site with BSA validation Friday morning March 13th.

If you wish to start using this site today, click here to launch meritbadge.info/mbn2

Adults must enter their BSA Number, DOB, First and Last name as it appears on their BSA ID card. We will query BSA and get back an answer. At this point one of three things can happen:
1) Your registration is verified - you can continue using Meritbadge.info normally
2) You are not registered or your registration has lapsed - your prior rights are revoked and you get the read-only screens that you see before your login
3) You are registered but your YPT has expired - your prior rights are revoked and you get the read-only screens that you see before your login

You have had at least two months to get yourself registered and complete YPT training. If you feel your validation is not working, send us an email with the four data items listed and we will validate your entry.

We have no control over what is on file at BSA. If everything matches your BSA ID card, there should be no issues. If not, your validation will fail.

Why are we doing this?
1. To provide higher security and validation of all adult users.
2. To clean up the mess we've accumulated via 15 years of poor user data entry.

How will we do this?

What should you do?
Login to https://my.scouting.org/ and copy your BSA ID Number then update your profile on Meritbadge.info.  Let others in your unit know they should do the same.  We are giving you 2.5 months advanced notice to make this work.

Sponsor Information

Welcome to the second year of advancement opportunities. Sponsored by the Trailblazer District of the Mid-America Council in conjunction with our hosts at Iowa Western Community College. We hope that the enhancements we have implemented for 2009 will continue to provide a quality learning environment for Scouts and Scouters.

Description

Once again we will be the receipients of quality facilities and instruction at Iowa Western's Council Bluffs campus. Several Eagle-required merit badges and a number of other exciting merit badge offerings will provide fun with a challenge. Scoutmaster Fundamentals will be offered for adult leader and interested parents. In addition, a revised Webelos program (2nd year only) has been designed to make this event a great opportunity for troops to invite potential new Boy Scouts to participate with them while preparing for the upcoming bridging over to the troops. Please remember that our focus continues to be on providing an instructional environment with some of the best counselors in this area and that all requirements for most merit badges will not be completed at the college. However, we do strive to provide the opportunity for the significant portion of work to be done here in most cases.

Counselor Information

For 2009 our event is paperless and electronic. In lieu of processing blue cards, all advancement information will be posted on the class roster reports online. It will be the responsibility of the unit leader to download this information for their Scouts and to process that information according to the procedures utilized by the unit. Each Scout must have a merit badge book to be successful at this event. Please be sure to take attendance and provide a report to the college of requirements completed and whether a boy has successfully completed the merit badge or only fulfilled partial requirements for the award. Indicate whether you will be available for post-college counseling. Please try to limit the amount of work requested before the college so that the boys may gain the value of your experience in the classroom.

Unit Sign-up Instructions
You must first download the Leader's Event Guide http://www.mac-bsa.org/bs_details.aspx?ID=589. Once you have read it and understand the procedures for the college, please contact Jim Bunch, Dean, at theguys@att.net to receive access to the registration system. It is important that you understand the registration procedures for this event before signing up your unit!!!

Please make sure to read through the published Merit Badge College 2009 Leader's Guide before you register and for more detailed instructions.

One (and only one) unit leader or point of contact will be responsible for registering the members of their unit and providing an e-mail address to facilitate communications with each unit. You will also be asked to provide a cell phone contact number of the leader that will be in charge of the boys on-site the day of the event. This is so we can quickly locate you in the event a situation occurs that requires your attention.

Please be advised that each Scout may ONLY register for one Citizenship merit badge. The Citizenship merit badges are normally the most popular requested at events of this type and we want to give every Scout the opportunity to earn at least one Eagle-required merit badge at the college.

Scouts that have not yet attained the rank of First Class Scout may only register for one Eagle-required merit badge.

Please remember to register all adults and secure a tour permit from your home council.

To ensure that each Scout has the best experience at our event, units are required to have one adult in attendance for every four Scouts registered. Some classes require adult assistance to help the instructor complete the lesson plan for that merit badge.

IMPORTANT:  ALL ADULTS WHO WILL

BE ATTENDING MUST REGISTER FOR

EITHER THE TRAINING OR THE ADULT IN

ATTENDANCE OPTION.

Payment Instructions for the Unit

PLEASE BE ADVISED: Currently the system will not let us assign a separate cost for Scoutmaster Training and for Adults in Attendance.  All registrations will total to $15.  Before you send your check, please check your roster and submit the appropriate fees. Disregard the amount at the bottom of your unit roster printout!  Please send a copy of that print out with your payment. Thank you.

All fees must be sent via mail to the below address. Payment must be received within 10 days of registration and no later than close of business November 18, 2009. Because of the popularity of the college and certain merit badges, if payment is not recieved within 10 days of registration and you do not make arrangements with the Dean of the College, registration for your unit may be deleted.  If you feel that your payment may not be received by the deadline via postal service you must contact the Dean of College to make arrangement to hand deliver your payment by the deadline. Only one check per unit, please. Multiple checks will be returned and registrations will not be processed.

Checks should be made payable to Mid-America Council, BSA and addressed to:

Release Information

By registering your Scouts and adults for this event you are agreeing to hold harmless the Mid-America Council, BSA, it's staff and volunteers, Iowa Western Community College, all off-site venues, and all persons associated with this event  from liability except in the case of gross negligence.

We reserve the right to limit registration for Merit Badge College or for any course. We also reserve the right to cancel courses or activities as needed. Although we do not anticipate the need to do this, there are limits on the number of participants we can accommodate. Please note that each Scout may only register for one of the Citizenship merit badges. These are the most popular merit badges and this policy is in place to insure that a maximum number of boys will be given the opportunity to earn one of these Eagle-required merit badges.
