Adults must enter their BSA Number, DOB, First and Last name as it appears on their BSA ID card. We will query BSA and get back an answer. At this point one of three things can happen:
1) Your registration is verified - you can continue using Meritbadge.info normally
2) You are not registered or your registration has lapsed - your prior rights are revoked and you get the read-only screens that you see before your login
3) You are registered but your YPT has expired - your prior rights are revoked and you get the read-only screens that you see before your login
You have had at least two months to get yourself registered and complete YPT training. If you feel your validation is not working, send us an email with the four data items listed and we will validate your entry.
We have no control over what is on file at BSA. If everything matches your BSA ID card, there should be no issues. If not, your validation will fail.
Why are we doing this?
1. To provide higher security and validation of all adult users.
2. To clean up the mess we've accumulated via 15 years of poor user data entry.

Login to https://my.scouting.org/ and copy your BSA ID Number then update your profile on Meritbadge.info. Let others in your unit know they should do the same. We are giving you 2.5 months advanced notice to make this work.

Troop 242 will be hosting a Merit Badge Workshop on October 5, 2019 at the Washington, Iowa High School. This venue will provide Scouts with an exciting and enjoyable experience. The Washington High School is located at 1111 South B Ave, Washington Iowa 52353.
Also remember, this many Merit Badges take longer than the time they attend the Workshop. There are often requirements that take weeks to complete. Please consider Merit Badge Workshops as introductions to a Merit Badge and a bonus if the Merit Badge is completed on site. |
Description |
Registration 7:30 am - 8:15 am
Opening Ceremony and Announcements: 8:15 am
Off-site merit badge participants will be directed to sit together during opening ceremony to allow the group to leave by 8:30 am.
AM session: 9:00 am to Noon
Lunch: Noon to 1:00 pm
PM session: 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
PLEASE NOTE: Off-site merit badge participants will return around 4:30 pm.
There will be no closing ceremony.
To help provide "Two Deep Leadership" you help may be needed. If an adult plans to sit in on a course please email katfields86@gmail.com so we can make sure we have enough adults.

Each counselor is a professional/expert in their field and will be providing a great class based on knowledge and experience. We encourage all Scouts to read the Merit Badge Booklet and FINISH all prerequisites before attending the Merit Badge Workshop. Please bring proof of your prerequisites that are finished. Scouts MUST be in a Class A Uniform.
Scouts are expected to arrive prepared with the printed Merit Badge Worksheet(s) a notebook, pen or pencil and a great attitude.

Registration is to be done via the online registration at meritbadge.info. Registration will open on Tuesday September 3, 2019 at approximately 8am.
All registrations are take on a 1st come 1st served basis.
Should a full class be encountered, please check back on the web site frequently to see if a space becomes available. Or email scoutsbsatroop242@gmail.com or katfields86@gmail.com and we wil see what we can do to make more spaces.
There will be no waiting list for any merit badge class.
Troops are to provide "Two Deep Leadership".
We ask that each boy only take one Eagle Required Merit Badge. Thanks
Scouts must be registered online in advance of workshop. Payment must be submitted within 2 weeks of registration to ensure placement in classes or class selection will be forfeited. Please have all payments mailed by October 6th to assure they arrive prior to the workshop.
Troop 242 Merit Badge Workshop will reserve the right to limit or cancel classes. Merit badges offered are subject to change based on merit badge counselor change of availability. Open and ending enrollment will be limited to the dates indicated unless arrangements are made. Please email scoutsbsatroop242@gmail.com if questions.
Additional Merit Badge Comments
PREREQUISITES ARE BEING REVIEWED AND WILL BE ADDED PRIOR TO REGISTRATION
Citizenship in the Nation - Prerequisites for this Merit Badge include: #2, #6 and #8. The more of these that are completed prior to the workshop, the closer you will be to completing the Merit Badge.
Communications - Prerequisites for this Merit Badge Include (please use the workbook to make notes and keep records and bing it with you): #4 (please be ready to introduce this person to your counselor), #5 - Attend any public meeting, take notes of the issues discussed and the points of view that are brought up, and have a short report prepared for your counselor. #8 - IF you are able in the short time please be ready to describe what you did with your counselor. #9 - with the assistance of a leader or parent, you will find looking up careers in communications easy (examples: TV Reporter, Journalist, Public Relations or any others). Fill out the workbook questions and be prepared to share with your counselor.
NOTE: This Merit Badge cannot be completed in a 1 day course unless all of the above are done prior to coming. That may be difficult with the short notice. Your counselor is willing to communicate with you after class via email. Once you have completed remaining requirements she will be willing to sign off your blue card (if you do not have a someone that can). Thanks
Family Life - #3, discuss with your parents chores you can do, #5 , discuss some possible projects and bring your ideas!
Horsemanship -***NOTE: To allow for more riding time boys will depart at 8:30 PROMPTLY!! Please have the scouts wear long pants and closed toe shoes. No restroom are available onsite. Scouts who need to use the restroom will be transported into town to a BP gas station (3 miles). If you are planning to drive to the site with your scout(s) please email katfields86@gmail.com (this will help with the transportation process). You will be driving gravel roads to get to the horse barn.
Dog Care - To complete the requirements you will need a dog at home.
Environmental Science* - Because this is a lenghty Merit Badge, there will be Requirements to be completed after the Workshop. Do the followoing Prerequisites: 3e either #1 or #2, 6.
Persoanl Management* - Prerequisite for this Merit Badge is #10. There will be many portions of the requirements that may need to be completed after the Workshop.
Sustainabiity* - Because this is a lenghty Merit Badge which requires many items to be done at home, THIS IS ONLY AN INTRODUCTION TO THE MERIT BADGE. These are the Prerequisites for the class:

Then after class, there is still work to do at home for completion of the Merit Badge. Our Merit Badge Instructor will be happy to keep in touch with you and see that all the requirements are complete. She can then sign the blue cards.

Payment Instructions for the Unit |
We will be offering AM, PM and ALL DAY sessions. Each session will cost $12, or $24 for the full day (either an AM and PM class or an ALL day class).
Rifle classe is a complete courses but may not be completed depending on attaining the required targets at the range. The special program fee includes $20 for Rifle.
A Pre-Paid lunch is available for $6.00. You need to go to the meritbadge.info web site and sadign up for one of the three choices for lunch. You will receive the pre-paid lunch vouchers in your registration packets. We will selling a minimal number of vouchers on the day of the workshop. Troop leaders please plan ahead and pre-order lunch!! Adults are encouraged to sign up for lunch vouchers if they wish.
Lunch this year will be a 9 inch meat and cheese sub (yes we went bigger this year) from HyVee (Ham/FOOD 1, Turkey/FOOD 2, Veggie/FOOD 3), chips and a cookie. Lemonade will be provided and arrangements will be made for the off campus sites.
Print 2 copies of your registration form. Send one copy with complete payment. Retain the other copy for your record. Please make check payable to Troop 242. Mail registration and payment no later than September 30th to Washington MBW c/o Troop 242, 608 N 2nd Ave, Washington, IA 52353.
Refunds: Please note that by registering, you are reserving a seat in a class and are expected to pay to attend. The registration is non-refundable. The amount paid will be forfeited if the scout does not attend.

Directions to the Event |
This year the event will be held at the Washington High School located at 1111 S. Ave B, Washington, IA 52353.
We are guests of the Washington Community High School. Please remember a Scout is clean. There shall be no littering, defacing or destruction of any surface. Virtues of the Scout Law and Leave No Trace shall be in effect at all times. Troop leaders are to coordinate with Scouts to clean the premises and to keep clean classroom in the same condition as found. All garbage must be disposed of into designated containers or carried out.
The Scout Oath, the Law and the Outdoor Code shall be guiding our behavior of the Merit Badge Workshop. A Scout whose conduct is not consistent with the code will be directed to leave the school ground immediately. Adequate supervision must be provided by each participating unit. Discipline is the responsibility of the Scoutmaster or other assigned leaders in charge of the troop. For the safety and security of all participants, Scouts are not permitted to leave the facility during the Workshop unless they are registered for an off campus Merit Badge. All activities are conducted in accordance with BSA Youth Protection Guidelines. |
